R171 SLK-Class | Years: 2004-2011
Core Exchange is currently available for all R171 SLK cylinders. Core deposit will be refunded after we receive your old cylinder back with lines attached and intact, as well the shaft not being scratched by tools. Either scratched shaft or damaged lines result in reduced core refund. Top Hydraulics manufactures replacement shafts and replacement hoses, but there is significant cost involved.
When considering the labor involved in removing one cylinder compared to a full set of cylinders, it is usually best to have all cylinders upgraded at the same time. The reason is, the majority of the labor involved is in removing access panels, and once the panels are removed, it is comparatively not much more work to remove all cylinders at once. Remember, the rebuild service for all cylinders at once costs about as much as a single replacement cylinder, and you get a much better product...

I'm very impressed with the service and quality. I'm helping a family member out with an R171 SLK. The roof wasn't working, so I first replaced the twisted cables on the right rear window regulator, then following Top Hydraulics videos on YouTube I refilled the pump reservoir and finally the roof worked - until it started pouring fluid out of the headlining! Again, the videos made the diagnosis and disassembly easy. After watching other videos of drilling and cutting cylinders to replace the seal, I decided not to try fixing it myself only to end up with a damaged core. I bought an off-the-shelf rebuilt lock cylinder so that I could unclip and reclip the hoses at the same time rather than trying to photograph or remember where to put zip ties. The price is great - much better than the used ones I saw listed on eBay. I ordered on Tuesday, got the part Friday and installed it without a problem, then shipped the core back on Saturday and got a core refund on Monday. The part was shipped with a pre-addressed Express Mail box and completed core return slip. I really appreciated that nice touch - it made the return shipping simple. Great service!
